Michael Urie and Spider-Man’s Matthew Wilkas Join the ‘Out 100’ List
Two more Broadway guys have been added to Out magazine’s 18th annual "Out 100" list. How to Succeed alum Michael Urie and Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark’s Matthew Wilkas have joined the ranks of the magazines' most compelling gay figures.
They join a roster of stage vets already singled out for their cultural contributions including Smash’s Andy Mientus, Tony-winning composer Elton John, Into the Woods star Gideon Glick, Once director John Tiffany, Tony-winning playwright Terrence McNally, Shakespearean expert Simon Callow, actor Michael Arden and Avenue Q director Jason Moore.
Urie became a breakout TV star for his hilarious turn as Marc St. James on the sitcom Ugly Betty. He has also starred in the gay-themed plays Angels in America and The Tempermentals off-Broadway. Earlier this year Urie made his Broadway debut as the devious Bud Frump in the revival of How to Succeed in Business Without Really Trying. He currently plays a gay character on the new CBS sitcom Partners.
Wilkas can be spotted as high school bully Flash Thompson in the action-packed Broadway musical Spider-Man, Turn Off the Dark. He also serves as an understudy for the lead role of Peter Parker. Earlier this year he starred opposite Silence! funnylady Jenn Harris in the indie film Gayby.
